6 Best Times for Photography

Lighting is everything in photography. So when is the best time to take photographs? This is a question I get often after the question  “Where should I get my photographs taken?” It all depends on the look you are wanting to create! You will hear many people talk about the golden hour as the prime time to take images. In this guide, I will talk about different options for the best time to take photographs and a bit about their pros and cons.

The Golden Hour

This is when the sun casts the beautiful golden tint on the earth. This is the time frame about an hour after sunrise and an hour before sunset. Some advantages are the variety of shots you can take during as well as the temperature is “a little” cooler in Florida. The sun is low in the sky which creates soft directional light with a nice warm glow. It creates nice shadows, keeps people or animals from squinting, and the warmth of the sun is pleasing to the human eye in photographic imagery. You can create silhouette shots where the sky is exposed and you see the outline of your subjects like a shadow. It can also be used to create a rim light creating a nice glow of you from behind or we could create a flare from the sun. The downside to the golden hour is sometimes the sun will cast a very warm light which is too intense making your images look super orange. This can be corrected in post production and with camera adjustments. You also will need to work fast as there is a limited time to the golden hour. This leads us to the blue hour where you have to move quickly to get unique images.

The Blue Hour is also known as twilight.

This is the time right before sunrise or after the sunset. This is when the sun is below the earth's horizon so you aren’t getting the direct light of the sun. It casts a blue tint making images cooler with very low contrast. This time of day is best shot near items like a lake or ocean where the reflection of the surface can be used as a light source. This time period happens quickly and will be gone before you know it.

Mid Morning and late afternoons

If you are shooting in the evening, I would suggest starting the session about an hour and a half before sunset to get some imagery without the quick changing sun. This will allow for time to get your bread and butter shots and then get the cool extra shots as the sun sets. On the flip side, if you are wanting some sunrise shots you can take advantage of the sunrise with the nice “golden hour look” and then continue to shoot without having to worry about losing light. Here in Florida we know it gets hot by 11:00 am so I find if you aren’t looking for a sunrise or sunset shot, in the mornings I will usually start at 9:00 am and in the afternoon at 4:00 pm depending on the actual sunrise and sunset time.

High Noon

Most photographers will tell you this is not the ideal time to shoot. There are tons of obstacles to overcome when shooting at this time. The colors and textures can seem washed out. The sun is often very bright causing people and animals to squint. If this is the only time you are available to shoot, there are some ways to work around the harsh lighting and to get creative with the light. In order to avoid the harsh light on the eyes casting dark shadows a fill light with flash can be used or a diffuser to diffuse the light. Another idea is to look for shady spots such as walls, trees, overhangs, or buildings. When you watch the surroundings, they sometimes will make a very cool contrast of dark shadows to light creating unique frames and interesting lines to your image.

See how Beau is having a hard time keeping his eyes open while on his walk at high noonish!

I took him to another location which was shaded and was able to get this gorgeous image of him without squinting his eyes.

Overcast day

The pro to having an overcast day is having a huge soft box for the sun. This will create a nice even soft light. Think of the clouds as a diffuser for the sun which will allow you to shoot all day long! Depending on what the clouds are doing your sky will appear completely white or you can get some interesting shots. Your photographer will have to adjust to get the best shots of the day!

Night time

This time can be used to create dramatic portraits using creative flash or the lights in the environment such as street lights or neon lights!

7 Tips for Preparing your Pet for Hurricanes

Hurricane season is upon us! In Florida our hurricane season runs from the beginning of June to the end of November. Not only should you get your house and non-furries prepared, our furry babies need some preparation as well. Here are a few things you should do to make sure your pets are ready too!

Emergency Supplies for your pet

Make sure you have enough water, food or prescriptions to last at least a week. Remember to get their leashes, carriers, bowls, towels, doggie shampoo, heart guard, and flea/tick control.

ID Tags

Get a temporary tag to add to your pets collar with a relative or friend’s number who lives outside the local area.

Microchipped

Make sure information is up to date. You can swing by the vet to do a microchip check to make sure the chip is working and hasn’t moved.

Updated Vaccinations

Keep a record file for each pet. Most pet-friendly evacuation shelters may ask to see your pet’s vaccinations records.

A photograph of you and your pet together

This will establish ownership and help others to help you in case your pet gets lost. You can add things like species, breed, age, sex, color, and any other descriptions to identify your pet.

Have Travel Carriers Handy

To help with making the crate a fun place, incorporate it into your routine once in a while. You can do this by placing treats, toys, and meals inside of it.

Know which Public Evacuation Shelters take pets

Not all shelters, hotels, or other locations will take in pets. Visit gopetfriendly.com or gopetfriendly.com to locate hotels or in Orange County Florida you can call 3-1-1 to get information on local pet-friendly shelters.

4 fun photography ideas to do with your children this summer!

1. Make a time capsule envelope

Go on an adventure taking photographs of the fun things you want to have fond memories of later in your life. Make a list of all the fun things you do now in your life, for example, places you go, people you hang out with, your clothes, or games you play. Go print them up and put them in an envelope and put a note to open the envelope up in 10 or 20 years. Imagine the fun you will have seeing everything you loved when you were younger! I bet you will get a few laughs!

Envelope.jpg

2. Create photo art

It is time to get your images off the computer! Think of a cool idea or theme for your montage. For example, pictures all dog related, different types of plants, a mirage of colors and shapes, or make letter pictures! Once you have your idea, get your images, print them out, and glue them to paper or canvas. Create something you can display for others to see!

3. Gratitude Challenge

Are you all having a particularly hard day? Let’s do a mind shift and go around taking photographs of all the things we are thankful for in our life! This will steer thoughts off of the negative and put them on the positive spectrum!

4. Touring the Neighborhood

I don’t know about you but I love seeing old pictures of my childhood home. I wish I had more pictures of the area, such as the playgrounds, my old school, the grocery store, my best childhood friend, and more. So pick up your camera and take some photographs of the place you all live and put the images in a family album so you can share this memento with your child as they grow older. This would be such a great gift!

My Top 5 helpful tips for Pet Parents

Are you all like me? Do you have almost every toy and dog clothing imaginable? I’m really great about purging my items, however, sometimes I forget to take the time to go through Beau’s drawers and toy box. Of course the last time I tried to clean out his toys, he kept running and grabbing everything I put in the trash out of the trash! 😊  Today I wanted to talk to you about some safety concerns and ideas to keep you and your pup safe and clean! Here are some helpful tips for pet parents!

Inspect your pets gear

It’s important to make sure their gear like the collar, tags, and leash are all safe. If their stuff looks like it is ready to break and is fraying it is time to invest in some new apparel. Damaged gear is a safety concern. Just like we wash our clothes to get bacteria and dirt off our clothes we should do the same for our pets. Their accessories can be easily washed in a sink with pet shampoo. It is a great idea to make sure your pet’s id is correct with the correct numbers on it so if they are lost, someone can call you. If your pup is chipped, make sure the HomeAgain® profile is correct. The national check the chip day is August 15th.

Pet hair clean up

Shedding is inevitable with animals! You can use a damp rubber glove to rub your hand over your rugs or furniture to remove the hair! Sometimes a vacuum clean just can’t get it all!

Clean up toys on aisle…

Take a peak in your pet’s toy box or all over the house and you will see a sea of dirt and unsanitary items. Plastic toys can be washed with unscented soap to get rid of dirt and bacteria. For the cloth toys, you can throw them in the washer. If they are past the point of no return, to the trash they must go.

Keeping your outdoor space clean

Make sure you check your yard for dangerous items. I have occasionally found glass and other times which eventually surfaced over time. Poop patrol is important to keep you, your put, or other family/friends from bringing in a land mine into the house! Also, remember if you use fertilizer or other chemicals on the yard, to make sure they are pet safe or you follow the allotted amount of time before your pet can revisit their yard! Remember certain chemicals are toxic to animals.

Dealing with fleas/ticks

Let’s face it! No one wants to deal with fleas and ticks! The good news is there are lots of great products out there to help keep these pesky pests away from your pets and out of your house! You can talk to your veterinarian about different medications or natural products to help keep everyone itch free!

Business Branding Photo Session with Karen: Clermont Branding Photographer

Pre-Session

Karen reached out to me because she was needing headshots for her upcoming album release. We discussed how she wanted to be photographed, the mood of her images, and what she wanted her final images to look like for the release. We went over location ideas and decided to go for a combination of an outdoor shoot at her house with also an indoor set up as well. We talked about how her images would be used and set a date for the session.

The Session

The day of the session I arrived and we did a walk through of her location. She showed me her backyard and where I was going to set up for the session. After the walk through I popped up my portable studio in her back room. I needed a 10 X 10 area to set up my backdrop and lights. Since we were shooting late in the afternoon we took some photographs in the backyard before the sun set and then we went inside to get the indoor images.

Post-Session

After the session, I went to work on editing her photographs for her to view. Once the images were done, I sent her an online gallery to view her images. She went through and picked the images she wanted to use for her album release. Once she let me know which images she wanted, I pulled them for the final touching of smoothing out her skin to look real and just a bit softer. Once I had the final touches complete, I let her know they were back in the online gallery for her to download and use for her album release.

5 Ideas for where to take your photographs!: Central Florida Dog Photographer

Trying to find the perfect location can be a daunting task! In this guide, I’ll talk about how to pick a great location!

1.     Go to your special location/place.

Think about where you and your fur baby like to go together. Do you have a special field, city, or hang out you frequent often? Taking photographs in an area you are used to will put your pup at ease because they will be used to the location. It will also help you capture all the good times you have at your spot!

2.    Woods

Do you all like to go on hikes together? Perhaps you are the outdoorsy type! You might want to hit the trails and get images of you all being adventurous.

3.    City

If the woods are not your thing, then perhaps you might go for the urban look. Downtown Winter Garden, Mount Dora, or Lake Eola are fantastic places to do a photo shoot.

4.    Beach

Surfs up! Do you have a water dog? Let’s head out to the sandy shores and have some fun out at the New Smyrna Dunes Dog Beach! There is a fee at this location.

5.     Home/studio look

If you dog is a little nervous to be out and about, we can do the photo shoot at your home! We can photograph your pup in their natural domain or if you are looking for the studio look, we can bring our portable studio to you!

If you have any questions or need more suggestions for locations, please let me know! Call or text 321-765-9473 (WISE)!

How to prepare yourself when you and your dog do a photoshoot together

1.  Keep calm

Being a little anxious during a session because you really aren’t sure what to expect is normal. Remember your dog will feed off of your energy so stay calm. Some people have been nervous their dog may not behave and be difficult. Animals can be unpredictable. I approach each session with a relaxed disposition to help with keeping everyone else calm. Remember, we will take our time to get the right images of your fur baby and you together.

Keeping calm…focus…nevermind just don’t look!! :)

Keeping calm…focus…nevermind just don’t look!! :)

2.  You need some sleep

You will want to get a good night’s rest just like your fur baby. It is important to be energized and ready to go! This will make for a great photo session!

3.  Breakfast time

I know you might feel guilty because you fed your fur baby a little less food than they are used to but you will want to keep your energy up for the photo shoot. Remember they are getting treats throughout the session. You can get them too but I’m not going to feed them to you! I really hope you caught the humor on that one! :) During the session, I will often need your help and if you are hungry, you won’t be focusing on your dog. Remember they feed off of us! So let’s get off on the right foot and feel great for the photography shoot!

4.  Have your outfit picked out

If you are going to be in the photo shoot with your pet so we can capture the bond you share with them. You will want to make sure you are dressed right for the photography shoot! I have a “What to Wear” section in your welcome packet! I would take a few minutes to review this session and reach out to me if you have any questions or need help with picking out the right outfit for you! Remember when hanging out with your pet, white might not be the best option.

Here is a great example of using the same color scheme yet everyone had their unique style.

How to prepare my dog for our photo shoot!

1.  Must be People friendly

You want to make sure your dog is good with people. If your dog isn’t friendly with people a professional photography session might not be the best option for your fur baby. It can cause anxiety for your dog and could put you and your photographer in a dangerous situation. You can always work on training your dog with a professional dog trainer for help with socialization.

2.  Bathed and groomed

Unless you are looking for a particular look for your dog, I would suggest having a bath the night/day before your dog’s session. Especially if your dog has long hair, I would brush your pet out the day before the session. If they require a professional groom or trim, I would take them for a fresh cut and style within 2 days of their photography session.

3.  Bring on the treats

If your dog works really well for kibble bites, bring them along. There will be more going on during a professional dog photography session, therefore, you will want to have the really awesome treats with you for the day. I would suggest bringing chewy treats over treats which crumble easily. The treats should help them to stay more focused.

4.  Low calorie breakfast

If you are having a morning session, I would give your pup a small snack in the morning before the session. If they are too full, they will not be food motivated which means they will be less likely to listen during the photo session.

5.  Lots of sleep

Your fur baby should be well rested! Depending on your dog's temperament a photography session can seem like a long day to them. We don’t want them to get stressed. They have moods just like humans and they can be in a good mood or a bad mood!

6. Get rid of the jitters

If you have a highly active dog, you will want to walk or play with your dog before the session. This will help to get some of the jitters out and allow them to focus. You don’t want them completely tired, just a little bit of the energy released.

7.  Bring a safe place for them

You know your dog best. Some dogs might not like a lot of stimulation. Bringing something for your dog to chill out in for a break is a great idea for an off-site photography session. It allows them to relax for a bit and feel like they have the smell of home with them. If we are on-location, please have a safe place for them. It can get overwhelming having a professional photographer with lighting and a huge camera pointing right at them.

If you have any questions about dog photography sessions, please reach out at 321-765-9473.

My trip as the pandemic hit and reflecting a year later: General Coffee State Park

The Trip

It's hard to believe that it's been a year! I remember last Spring break taking off and heading up to Georgia for a camping trip right as the pandemic started to go nuts.

I really didn't understand what was going on. I heard about social distancing and was like what the heck does that mean. You mean to tell me I can't hug people anymore. I was in the woods a lot and thinking I've been doing social distancing for a really long time already! I rarely ever ran into people on my hikes! I was starting to understand there was something out there that could make you very sick and potentially kill you and we needed to sanitize and stay home. I remember being scared and mad because I wasn't at home and at the same time, I was already away from people cause I was camping. It was a very unsettling feeling. I was mad because I knew the person I'm around the most would have to be around people and I didn't know how this would affect us. Would we be alright?

As we started to pack up and were almost done, Chris asked me….”Did you do this?” and I was like “Do what?” She said, there is a cross made from these sticks. I walked over and sure enough there was a cross perfectly made. I told her “No, I didn’t do that.” and she said “Well I didn’t do that.” We had been there all week and never saw the cross before then! I took it as a sign from God we would be alright!

Reflecting a year later

This past year has definitely had its ups and downs. I know for me I found it was a good time for me to take a break. My day job had been putting a lot of stress on me and I was battling eye issues. Being a photographer with eye issues is very scary!  So I switched gears and started to focus on my health.  I have limited the amount of time I spend on technology now. This is difficult because my day job is on the computer. However, limiting my time after work has helped my eyes immensely! It makes me more selective on where my focus should be and how to accomplish capturing beautiful imagery for others and meeting my goals. I was able to learn about new things. I have been learning more about nutrition and took an interest in learning about herbs. I like to have tea time! I have also started to grow sweet mint, cilantro, and rosemary. The newest addition is Peachy, my peach tree. I've lost 24 pounds. I walk and ride my bike regularly! This has made hiking to get nature shots so much easier! I felt like I could have hiked forever with full gear the other day! I'm able to move quicker which is really necessary when working with furbabies!

This year has been many things to different people. I hope in the midst of all the craziness and sadness we have endured, you were able to find some light and happiness in these trying times.

A day with Abbie; Clermont, Florida Senior photographer

Pre-session

Abbie's parents contacted me to capture her high school senior session. They had already gotten her pictures for the yearbook and were looking for something special to do outside the studio setting. We came up with a plan for her session during our consult and planning phone call.

The session

We decided we would have a two part session out at Lake Minneola. We met at the Clermont Historic Village Museum near downtown Clermont, Florida first. We took a variety of images around the village and out by the lake. We used the pop up changing station for the wardrobe changes. Abbie was impressed because she said on other sessions they have had to stop and find a place to change.

Next we drove over to the boat ramp where we met her parents. We captured additional imagery as she surfed behind the boat. It was fun to capture her in action and see the concentration and all the fun she was having!

Post-session

About 3 weeks later we met for the reveal and order session. Prior to this meeting we had discussed how she was getting an album as her keepsake. First, we all watched a picture video presentation of her images and then we went through and picked the images she wanted in her table book album.

About 4 to 6 weeks later I was able to deliver her album to her and her family. Her parents were impressed by the quality of the images and the album. It made them happy when I was able to exceed their daughter's expectations.

A day with Dani, Casey, and Turner: Clermont, Florida Dog Photographer

This post is a little late. However, I wanted to share about our day!

Pre-session

I met this family out at Paws in the Park back in 2020 prior to the pandemic. They were the winners of the complimentary session. During our consultation and planning phone call we talked about what they wanted to do with their imagery. It was decided they wanted to get wall art for the main living area.

The Session

We decided to go with a woodsy themed session. We met out at Lake Louisa State Park for an early morning session. We took images out near the lake and on the boardwalk! We all had a great laugh when a bird decided to poop on Casey! She was a trooper and we were able to capture this great image they purchased! Turner loves to play fetch and we were able to get some great action shots of him!

Post-session

About 2 to 3 weeks later we met online for the design and ordering session. We knew prior to our meeting we were going to be looking for wall art. Prior to the meeting Dani had sent over pictures of their wall so I could show them what their artwork would look like to scale. We took time to enjoy the images with the picture video presentation. Afterwards we went through and picked out the images they wanted to purchase for their keepsakes.

4 things to know when planning your photography session: Orlando Pet Photographer

1. Pick the right photographer according to your photography style

Find a photographer’s work who resonates with you. Are you more playful, serious, love bold vibrant colors or other? If you love the photographer's work, set up a meeting to talk with them and make sure you all can work together well. If you all jive on the phone or in person then the photography session should go off beautifully! It can really be a lot of pressure finding the right photographer! They will be the one capturing a special moment in your life! Make sure you all click and they are offering the services you are looking for!

2. Pick the perfect location

Your photographer can help you with this. You will want to find a location which means something to you all! Here are some ideas to get you thinking about what you would like for your session. Do you love the ocean, woods, city life, or a quiet park? Are you casual or formal? Let me know what you are looking for and I can offer some suggestions from my list.

3. Dressing for the part

You need to think about how you want these photographs displayed and what you want them to show others…Let me tell you a story about a young girl many moons ago! I remember when I was going for my senior portraits….we won’t say how long ago this was either! I remember I knew I wanted to be able to look back and be proud of my senior portrait. I grew my hair out specifically for this photograph so I could look back and have a timeless look for my photograph! Those who know me know this was pretty much the last time I ever had long hair! The point is, you want something which is stylish, fits your personality, and you can look back in years to come fondly on this piece of artwork we will be creating. I have a how to prepare for your session list ready for you when you book your session. I’ll be more than happy to give you a helping hand in ideas for your apparel for both people and pets.

4. Have fun and relax

Let’s face it….sometimes pets and people both get nervous in front of the camera! During your photography session, it should be a fun time! We will go with the flow and have some fun! Sometimes I will give you some direction and other times, I will let you be to capture that moment!

4 Ideas for your photographs from your photography session!

I remember one of the first weddings I photographed and when I walked into the reception room, it was so awesome seeing all the photographs taken from the bridal and engagement session sitting out for everyone to see! Can you imagine your pieces of artwork displayed in your home?

Here are some ways to display your photographs:

One: Coffee table book/album

The nice thing about an album is you can tell a story about your lives during a period in your life. Not only is this album for you but also for your future generations to enjoy. An album can be passed down from generation to generation. It is a beautiful way to preserve important memories.

Two: Wall art

It felt really great to see all of the images printed at that wedding. I got to see the reactions of the guest as they looked at them. In this technological world, we see the “likes” and “loves” when we post, but there is nothing better than seeing your family and friends actual face smiling or shedding a tear while looking at your beautiful images. Think of the joy you will have when you walk in your house and see all the beautiful artwork of the one’s you treasure!

Three: Holiday cards

If you are getting professional photography, why not put the best images on your holiday card!

Four: Gift prints

You know how much your family loves you! Think about getting prints for other family members to display in their home or office.

One final thought, think about how often digital technology has changed! We have had floppy disks, CD’s, DVD’s, USB’s and now we even have a cloud. As the cloud gets better, USB’s may even become obsolete. What happens when the technology crashes or fails? What happens if you can’t get into the account? Then what. This leads me back to why you will want to print your imagery. I’m not saying print doesn’t ever get destroyed, however, print is the one format which hasn’t changed drastically throughout the years. It has been the one tried and true method of passing down pictures from generation to generation. Printing your artwork makes it easier to preserve. Which would you get more excited about being handed….a usb with potential files being corrupted or a printed piece of art of the one’s you love?

How to prepare your dog for a pet photo shoot!: Clermont Dog Photographer

When thinking about a photography session, one of the first things to think of is how will your fur baby react to a pet photography session. Depending on your dog’s temperament will decide if we can do the session or not. We can always talk about your concerns and pick a location according to your dog’s needs. If you dog isn’t friendly with people a professional photography session might not be the best option for your fur baby. It can cause anxiety for your dog and could put us and others in a dangerous situation. You can always work on training your dog to like others by bringing them to public places and reinforcing positive behavior. If your pup is hyper or a little crazy, have no fear because this is what I’m use too! I use quick shutter speeds and I work out so I can keep up with our furry family members! Here are some great ideas to get your fur baby ready for their professional pet photography session.

1.         Bathed and groomed

Unless you are looking for a particular look for your dog, I would suggest having a bath the night before your dog’s session. I would also brush your pet out the day before the session. If they require a professional groom or trim, I would take them for a fresh cut and style within 2 days of their photography session.

2.      Bring on the treats

If your dog works for kibble bites, bring them along. The chewy treats are best because they do not create crumbs all over the location and on your pup. This may help them to stay more focused.

3.      Low calorie breakfast

If your dog is full, they will be less likely to work for the treats. I would suggest giving them a small snack in the morning and we will make up what your pup misses for breakfast during the session. I have found if they have a partially empty stomach, they are more likely to listen to get their treat.

4.      Sleep up

Your fur baby has moods just like humans. They can be in a good mood or a bad mood! Depending on your fur baby, a photography session can seem like a long day and stressful for them. I will work to make it as stress free for them as possible. We will take breaks and breathing time throughout the session. In the meantime, have them rest up!

5.        Have a “safe place/item”

Bringing something for your dog to chill out in or on for a break is a great for an off-site photography session. It allows them to relax for a bit and feel like they have the smell of home with them. If we are on-location, please have a safe place for them. It can get overwhelming having a professional photographer bring in lighting and a huge camera pointing right at them. If an animal indicates they are uncomfortable, I will change according to their needs. The last thing I want for them is to be anxious or scared.

These are a handful of things to prepare for your session. We will have conversations about your fur baby and plan a session which will best fit your family’s needs. My goal is to prepare a lot beforehand so the day of goes smoothly and I understand your pup. At the end, I want you all leaving happy and having a great day of memories!

4 things to know when planning your photography session: Orlando Pet Photographer

1. Pick the right photographer according to your photography style:

Find a photographer’s work who resonates with you. Are you more playful, serious, or other? If you love the photographer’s work, set up a meeting to talk with them and make sure you all can work together well. If you all jive on the phone then the photography session should go fantastic! It can really be a lot of pressure finding the right photographer! They will be the one capturing a special moment in your life! Make sure you all click!

2. Pick the perfect location:

Your photographer can help you with this. You want to find a location which means something to you all! Here are some ideas to get you thinking about what you would like for your session. Do you love the ocean, woods, or a quiet park? Are you casual or formal? Let me know what you are looking for and I can offer some suggestions from my list.

3. Dressing for the part:

You need to think about how do you want these photographs displayed and what do you want them to show others….what image do you want to convey?

I remember when I was going for my senior portraits….we won’t say how long ago this was either! I remember I knew I wanted to be able to look back and be proud of my senior portrait. I grew my hair out specifically for this photograph so I could look back and have a timeless look to the photograph! Those who know me know this was probably the last time I ever had long hair! The point is, you want something which is stylish, fits your personality, and you can look back in years to come fondly on this photograph. I have a whole list ready for you all to read about and when you book your session I’ll be more than happy to give you a helping hand in ideas for your apparel for both people and pets.

4. Have fun and relax:

Let’s face it….sometimes pets and people both get nervous in front of the camera! During your photography session, it should be a fun time! We will go with the flow and have some fun! Sometimes I will give you some direction and other times, I will let you be to capture that moment!

Tips for a professional head shot session: Orlando Photographer

1.    Communicate your vision.

Prior to the shoot, it is important to share as many details and ideas you have for your session. It is important your photographer has an idea of the overall feel and look you want to achieve. The more details you share, the better.

2.    Relax.

If you are not relaxed during your session, this will show in your images. I tend to talk with you to help with getting more relaxed. Sometimes I may give you no direction and this is alright too. Maybe you did something I liked and I don’t want to draw your focus to it. If you have any concerns at any time, let me know.

3.    Clothing

I would wear well fitted clothing you usually wear which you find comfortable and portrays the mood you want to create. If you aren’t comfortable, it will show in your photographs. In a head shot, the focus should be you and not your clothing. If you need help, let me know and we can talk about clothing more.

Do: Solid clothing is the best. To add interest to the photograph you can add layers or some patterns under a jacket. Suits which are dark are best for a traditional look or skip the jacket for a business casual look or perhaps a dressy sweater. Pick colors which complement your skin tone.

Do nots: Loud patterns, shiny, or logoed clothing will distract from you. It is suggested to avoid wearing short sleeves or sleeveless blouses for women who do not want to draw attention to their arms. All white tends to wash people out. Avoid wearing a lot of jewelry as this could distract from you.

4.    Be prepared.

If we are shooting outside, a small towel is suggested in case you start to sweat. We do live in the sunshine state! J I would also bring a comb, make up, or anything else you need to freshen up while we are working. I would also bring water to stay hydrated.

5.    Hair and make up

Some clients like to hire a hair and make-up artist the day of the shoot or do their own. If you are doing your own or have hired a make-up artist, I would suggest going for a natural look and wear your hair how you would usually wear it.

If you get your hair cut or dyed, I would suggest getting this done 2 weeks prior to your shoot. If you get a spray tan, I would give yourself the same time frame.

I hope you found these tips helpful. I want you to look your best during your head shot session as this is a reflection of you and your brand. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me!

Are you looking for some great ideas for your photography session? Sit back and think about…What do you all like to do in general? For example, I like to go out in my boat, go four-wheeling, or go on a nature walk. Here are some great ideas for you to try out on your photography session.

ONE:

Visit your secret location. Do you have a secret spot you all like to go to on a regular bases?

I have had clients in the past who wanted a photography session at their house. They wanted the essence of their home because this is where the family is most often. Do you have a pasture or barn which is special to you? Want to go crazy in the kitchen? Capture what happens when your other half plays their instrument? Play fetch with your best friend?

THREE:

Boating Time

Do you like to be on the lake, ocean, or stream? Think about heading out as the sun sets! Think of all the views you all could get!

FOUR:

Go to the beach.

There is nothing like the sand, waves, and ocean air!

FIVE:

Let’s go on an adventure. Where would you like to go? What would you like to do?

Remember to be true to yourselves and have fun!
