Getting to know the person behind the camera!

My is Kathryn and my buddies call me KT. Yall I remember when VHS camcorders became available. I was about 8 or 9 and I remember taking my aunt’s camcorder and recording the family. As I crew up I wanted to be news camerawomen, however, I was sure I was to short for the job! Looking at that idea now, I’m glad I didn’t as I’m not much of a news person.

In middle school, I took a course about multiple arts and we were able to play in a dark room which I did enjoy. It was cool watching photographs come to life! Due to the cost of photography, I didn’t go full force into it and just took pictures for special occasions! I would use a pocket instamatic. After high school, I was watching a movie and I was fascinated by the photographer character and thought it would be really cool to be a photographer but the price of film was still a concern for me.

Then in 2004 I met someone who was into photography and this was when I learned about digital photography! Shortly after meeting my friend, I started working for a production company with her and eventually starting my first video and photography company with her. I learned a lot of things during this time both good and bad! Eventually, we went our separate ways and I didn’t touch a camera for about 5 years and it took me almost 7 before I would photograph a person or even look at my work! This was the time when I really started taking to nature photography.

Throughout my photography career, I have always been involved in education. I’ve taught grades K to 9 in the public school system. I have worked as a Speech Language Pathologist, worked in self-contained units, worked with special needs students in a variety of settings, and worked with regular education students as well. I have taught math, science, and social studies. Now, I’m a Physical Education teacher! Outside of the public school system, I have always taught adults about photography.

I knew I would eventually come back to photography. I just didn’t know when and in 2016 I opened with a soft launch for Wise Images Photography. I started to do weddings and live events upon my return but I found my passion for them wasn’t there anymore. I also had no understanding of social media and I’m still working to understand it! I dabbled in a few other types of genres as well which I thought I would like but didn’t. As time progressed, I found my passion was truly for nature photography, headshots/branding, and seniors! I also found I wanted to teach others about photography so I started offering private teaching sessions, workshops, and I started a YouTube channel in 2022.

I have been featured in local galleries (SOBO Art Gallery and South Lake Art League), my work can be found in local shops, and I have won multiple awards for my work.

I’m available today for hire,
